Job Description

Assumes responsibility for the department’s activities in the absence of the Director, supervises the activities of the Pharmacy
Responsibilities:
• Evaluates, recommend and implements approved policies and procedures using knowledge of related laws governing the profession and departmental goals and objectives.
• Supervises, hires, trains, disciplines and evaluates the performance of staff. Ensure performance appraisals are completed in a timely manner.
• Participates in hospital committees established to identify the needs of patients and the scope of pharmaceutical services required to meet those needs.
• Participates in department's Quality Assurance Coordinating Group and its' initiatives.
• Coordinates pharmacy operations commensurate with the scope of services provided and the identified needs of patients.
• Coordinates inventory management activities.
• Maintains an open line of communication with the Pharmacy Director for various issues to achieve best practice.
• Supports and promotes the decisions and direction of the Pharmacy Director, as an administration liaison for the hospital, which is best demonstrated by exercising best behavior and leading by example.
• Serves as a mentor, educator, and assessor to continually improve performance providing guidance and positive feedback in addition to assessing the competency of pharmacist and pharmacist assistant skills and abilities needed to manage daily distribution, compounding and clinical activities, (i.e. Antimicrobial management, anti-coagulation management, pain management etc. as well as taking the necessary steps
• Acts as a preceptor for pharmacy students.
• Collaboration with the medical staff, and nursing staff, that is attained with daily interaction but also by committing to be an active member in the various committees, or short term special projects, as well as attending nursing staff meetings and patient rounds.
• Works with the Pharmacy IT to pose suggestions to maximize system efficiency and clinical upgrades based on the most recent medical evidence.
• Foster teamwork, with our own staff as well as with the various disciplines.
• Keeps informed on developments and trends inside and outside the hospital that relate to assigned functions; is actively involved in quality assurance programs.
• Maintains up-to-date knowledge of the profession by membership and participation in programs; by attendance at meetings, seminars and lectures; and by reading the current literature.
• Working as a patient care team member, is responsible for the preparation, preservation, dispensing and distribution of medications and related items requested by proper authority. Acts as knowledge resource for physicians, nurses, patients, administrative and other hospital personnel. Assists in preparing reports and maintaining records.
• Performs related duties as required.

Requirements:
• Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy from an accredited college or university including a pharmacy residency/internship program. Advanced degree in Pharmacy, preferred.
• Currently licensed as a Pharmacist in the State of New York.
• Minimum of three (3) years progressively supervisory experience in a hospital setting or equivalent education and experience.
• Demonstrated knowledge in the specialized function of hospital Pharmacy.
